Pahalgam Terror Attack: 14 Local Kashmiris Named by Indian Intelligence for Supporting Pakistani Terrorists

52

In a shocking revelation, Indian intelligence agencies have identified 14 local Kashmiris accused of providing logistical support to Pakistani terrorists during the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. The attack, which claimed 26 lives and injured over 20 tourists in the scenic Baisaran Valley, has sparked a massive crackdown in South Kashmir as authorities aim to dismantle the terror network. This article explores the latest developments, the named individuals, and the ongoing security operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pahalgam Terror Attack: A Tragic Incident

On April 22, 2025, a group of five to six terrorists, including Pakistani nationals, opened fire on tourists in Baisaran Valley, a popular destination near Pahalgam known as “Mini Switzerland.” The attack, one of the deadliest in Kashmir since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, targeted male Hindu tourists, with perpetrators reportedly verifying victims’ religion before shooting. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), initially claimed responsibility but later retracted the claim. Indian authorities have linked the attack to Pakistan, citing digital evidence pointing to safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi.

14 Local Kashmiris Named by Indian Intelligence

Indian intelligence agencies have named the following individuals for allegedly aiding Pakistani terrorists in the Pahalgam attack: Mohammad Adil Rahman Dentu (21), Mohammad Asif Ahmed Sheikh (28), Mohammad Ahsan Ahmed Sheikh (23), Mohammad Haris Nazir (20), Mohammad Amir Nazir Wani (20), Mohammad Yawar Ahmed Bhat, Mohammad Asif Ahmed Khande (24), Mohammad Naseer Ahmad Wani (21), Mohammad Shahid Ahmed Kute (27), Mohammad Amir Ahmad Dar, Mohammed Adnan Safi Dar, Mohammad Zubair Ahmad Wani (39), Mohammad Haroon Rashid Ganai (32), and Mohammad Zakir Ahmed Ghani (29).

These individuals are accused of providing logistical support, including shelter, transportation, and intelligence, to the terrorists. The names have been reported by multiple sources, including The Times of India, highlighting the severity of local involvement in the attack.

Massive Crackdown in South Kashmir

Following the attack, security forces have launched a large-scale operation in South Kashmir to apprehend the perpetrators and their supporters. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, and National Investigation Agency (NIA) are conducting joint operations, demolishing houses of suspected terrorists, raiding hideouts, and detaining hundreds of overground workers for questioning. Sketches of three suspects—Adil Hussain Thoker, Ali Bhai (Talha Bhai), and Hashim Musa (Suleman)—have been released, with a bounty of Rs 20 lakh each for information leading to their capture.

In Bandipora, Pulwama, and Shopian districts, authorities have demolished the homes of active terrorists, including LeT operative Jameel Ahmad Shergojri. A significant cache of arms, including AK-47 rifles and ammunition, was recovered from a terrorist hideout in the Sedori Nala area. The crackdown aims to dismantle the terror ecosystem and prevent further attacks.

India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate

The Pahalgam attack has intensified tensions between India and Pakistan. India has accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border, and revoking visas for Pakistani nationals. Pakistan has denied involvement, with its Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggesting the attack could be a “false flag operation.” In retaliation, Pakistan has suspended the Simla Agreement, restricted trade, and closed its airspace to Indian carriers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to pursue the terrorists “to the ends of the earth,” while security forces have been directed to enhance anti-terror operations. The international community, including the US and UK, has condemned the attack and urged both nations to exercise restraint.

Why Was Pahalgam Targeted?

Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, accessible only by foot or horseback, is a prime tourist spot, attracting thousands daily. The attack’s timing, during peak tourist season and coinciding with US Vice President JD Vance’s visit to India, suggests an intent to disrupt tourism, embarrass India globally, and highlight the Kashmir issue. The TRF’s stated motive was opposition to non-Kashmiri settlement in the region, which they claim causes demographic changes.

Security Lapses and Criticism

The attack has raised questions about intelligence failures and security lapses. Local politicians, including National Conference leader Altaf Kaloo, have criticized the lack of security at Baisaran despite prior intelligence inputs. Reports suggest that coordination between agencies like the Intelligence Bureau, Research & Analysis Wing, and J&K Police may have been inadequate, allowing terrorists to infiltrate undetected.

What’s Next for Jammu and Kashmir?

The ongoing crackdown and heightened security measures aim to restore peace in Kashmir, but challenges remain. The demolition of suspects’ homes and detention of locals have sparked concerns about alienating innocent civilians, with leaders like Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti urging caution. The Indian government is under pressure to balance strong anti-terror measures with maintaining public trust in the region.

As investigations continue, the NIA is examining forensic evidence and digital footprints to uncover the full conspiracy. The nation mourns the loss of 26 lives, with candlelight vigils and protests held across India and abroad, demanding justice for the victims.
